While staying with friends in Greece, I asked our host if she knew of any markets in Athens. The look on her face was priceless as she explained where I could find the two, rancid-smelling, square blocks in the center of the city that she has never dared nor desired to set foot into: Athens Central Meat Market.
These dark, dingy little "worlds-within-worlds" are found along paths less traveled; they fascinate me.
