Island Life

Today I found myself curled up on the couch reading a letter from a friend who lives in Puerto Rico. As my eyes wandered along with the perfect penmanship, I began to sink into her story. Many moons since we last spoke, and yet, it's as if the letter picked up mid-conversation. She described her afternoon activities of teaching and tea sipping, and her daily victories of lawn mowing and gym going. Progress of past and present students graced the next paragraphs, followed by praises and prayers--both for here and for there.

For a brief moment, I slipped into fond memories of the whispers of winds through towering palms, sipping chai tea while hammocking on the balcony, walking at la playa with the pups, soaking up the sun while laying on the sand, spending time, learning to need no plan.

*sigh*
