While much of my time in Aberdeen was filled with sunshine, the first few days of the trip were the typical cold, damp, grey, and gloomy days that the locals experience on a regular basis. The weather, coupled with the endless blocks and blocks of granite buildings, have earned Aberdeen the nicknames of the Grey and Granite City. Walking the streets, my interactions with many people made me feel as though those nicknames didn't just come from the state of the sky or the abundance of the silvery stone structures. The demeanor of most was stern, focused, and slightly startled when "bothered" by a strange American with a big camera. So, for a solid day or two, I stuck to documenting the granite architecture.
But then something changed. The sunshine bathed the city in its golden rays. And just as the silvery specks in the granite walls sparkled brightly, bringing to life this monochromatic masterpiece, so did the light in the eyes of the Scots around me. Instantly, it was like an entirely different city. The proof is in the pudding.
