City Lights Moves to the Coffee Klatch

For those of you who couldn't make it to the showing of the City Lights series at Pomp Salon in Santa Monica, it has moved to the San Dimas location of the Coffee Klatch--one of my favorite coffeehouses outside the city. "The Klatch" will be hosting a meet the artist event in mid-to-late October, complete with live music. Check the blog soon for details on the event!

Making Time to do what I Love

The beauty of being my own boss is that I can make my own hours, show up for work in my P.J.s (yes, guilty as charged)--I can even blast my music as high as I can stand, if I so please. Unfortunately, there is a down side to having a boss like me: I have a tendency of being too much of a slave driver. Innumerable times have I spent an obscene amount of hours in front of my computer screen. I'll admit, at least two days of the week, I don't actually make it out the front door. I get too caught up with working toward that next deadline or planning for the next big shoot. So focused on the end product, I forget to stop and smell the roses along the way. Hence, a serious lacking in blog entries.

Time to break the habit. This past weekend (yes, I actually made it out into public), I rubbed elbows with "fellow creative mind" Amy Frazier--nose wiper (is that hyphenated?), mom, friend, photographer, extraordinaire. It's been a while since I've been fully immersed in a strong creative community, so seeing Amy was like a breath of fresh air. Conversation quickly changed from babies, because that's what happens at baby showers, to blogging. Amy shared a bit about her life and the role photography plays in it. Every time I meet someone who genuinely loves their craft, it inspires me to get back to square one.

Even before I knew what an aperture or film speed was, I loved making images. The click of the shutter, the smell of the film, the simple joys of creating--it's unlike anything I've ever known. I realize, probably better than most, how easy it is to get caught up in the day-to-day tasks that make a job, "a job." I fear that sometimes I cheat myself choosing to be constantly chained to my computer instead of being behind my camera. So, the lesson for today? All things in balance.

In short, be expecting to see some random images come your way from now on. Below is an image I captured during sunset at one of my trips to my storage unit in Orange County. The single strip of light came and went in about three minutes' time, leaving me to the darkness, which was, I'll be honest, quite creepy.


Also, by the end of this week the final Puerto Rico images will be done. I look forward to sharing them with you!

And We're Editing...

It's been an exhausting day. I've managed to rack up about 13 hours in front of the computer screen today, leaving just a teeny tiny dent in the mountain of work I have to do! I know you're all anxious to see the final product from Puerto Rico; however, it may be a week or two before I get a strong portfolio completed-with stories, of course. For now, I shall leave you with one of my favorite shots from meandering the streets of downtown Luquillo. Good night!
